On Making Plans

I just finished organising most of a trip with some friends. They’re actually the first people I’ve shared the link to this site with since it’s gone live, so if you’re reading this, hi guys! Anyway, they both inhabit incredible planning and foresightedness skills, so having them as travel companions is truly a dream come true. I will be gushing about them for most of this piece, I think, but I’ll let them bask in the anonymity, and in knowing that everything I write will be true. I’m not one for lavishing undeserved praise. The trip in question is in a month, and is one for which I am immensely excited, as even though I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively, there is a certain level of added enthusiasm in this instance, as this is the first trip I’ll have gone on without family. Not to say a bad word against them, but I’m ready for a bit more independent travel.

That does mean, though, that the organising falls squarely on my shoulders – technically, my friends’ shoulders, too, but that didn’t sound as dramatic. As is very much in line with what I know about myself, my instinct was not to worry about the finer details (or any details, rather), until much closer to the date. Unfortunately, unlike packing up a dorm room, prices and stress levels rise exponentially when it comes to travel. These friends are two of the most sociable, intelligent and fun people I know, but the quality of theirs for which I am very grateful right now is the aforementioned planning. Not least, because they have the capacity to make a task I normally dread that much more enthusiasm-inducing. And as much as I do often dread planning, I am a far bigger fan of its result – certainty. There’s nothing quite like having all one’s details planned with plenty of time to spare – there’s really nothing at all quite like that for me, especially because of my poor planning.

There’s not much else to add – I just love stewing in excitement! Not only for the trip, but for this website. This is will be the most recent entry for since it’s gone live, only about an hour ago. I finally wrote an actual ‘about’ page, which was previously a random template about someone called Cassidy – but she is no more, and lo, my website was released into the world! In its current form, the site is a bit basic, but I am really looking forward to developing and adding to it in time. If anyone has any suggestions, please do let me know, as I think my ideas are, at this stage, a bit limited. I will soon set up a dedicated email address for it all, but in the meantime, all my socials should be easily accessible, or you can use the ‘leave a message’ form on my contact page. It’s weird for me to be writing these words rather than reading or hearing them, but please share the website with anyone you think might like it, it’s only going to get better from here!

Or worse. It could very easily get worse. That is still an option. But here’s to it getting better!
